Hermosa Beach weather is temperate and sunny more than half of the year. Even if it dips below 65°F, the sunshine is too good that not more than a hoodie will suffice. Yes, it’s pretty epic, lucky, and just dumps Vitamin D and endorphins all over you with every step outside. Considering that nature is a beast, and you can never truly tell what type of weather you are going to get, it is still pretty safe to say that the 90254 weather is super nice (still an understatement) more than half the time. Other times, it can get gusty winds, gloomy rain, thick morning marine layers, and the annual June gloom which seems to appear more in May to July. Overview of Hermosa Beach Weather
Hermosa Beach enjoys a Mediterranean climate characterized by mild winters, warm summers, and cooling ocean breezes that make the 90254 weather pleasant year-round. With over 281 sunny days annually, Hermosa Beach is ideal for outdoor activities, whether you’re lounging on the sand, biking along The Strand, or catching waves.
As I write this post, I was at the beach today and it was cool breezes, but the sun was warm on the skin. My kids were in tees and shorts. I had a hoodie on. Some people had full snow attire such as a down jacket, beanie, and boots!! I can not make this up. Of course, my sandals were on in great Hermosa style fashion.
Often times, expect that when in Hermosa to Manhattan Beach that the mornings have quite the marine layer rolled in, and it burns off very quickly by 10am or so. LAYERS are key to comfort!
Average Annual Temperature:
• Highs: 64°F to 78°F
• Lows: 48°F to 65°F
Rainfall: Hermosa Beach averages around 13 inches of rain per year, primarily during the winter months (January to March).
Best Time to Visit for Sunny Weather
The best time to visit Hermosa Beach for consistently sunny 90254 weather is late July through October. During these months, temperatures are warm, rainfall is rare, and overcast skies (caused by “June Gloom” and “May Gray”) have mostly cleared.
Why late July through October?
1. Warm Temperatures: Highs range between 73°F and 77°F, perfect for beach activities.
2. Minimal Rain: These months are among the driest, with virtually no rain to disrupt outdoor plans.
3. Sunny Skies: After June Gloom dissipates, hence why late July, days are bright and clear, especially in the afternoons.
4. Best Surf Conditions: South swells dominate, offering excellent waves for both beginners and experienced surfers.

Hermosa Beach Weather Monthly Locals Advice
This section is a bit for laughs, but actually holds pretty true! You can’t go too wrong if you follow these suggestions.
- If you are visiting, don’t pack too much and just consider shopping at the local shops for Hermosa beach hoodies and hats.
- A puffy, down jacket is almost never required for 90254 weather.
- I haven’t used any down or big jackets from my closet in years. I DO suggest a nice cashmere or lightweight wool blend scarf. You can almost always use a cozy and chic scarf from September – April.
- California winter is considered sandals with a jacket. So when in Rome…don’t forget the beach sandals. They can be worn year round!
- January: 50’s – 70’s. Sunny but we are “cold”. Hoodies and even a few ugg boots might be spotted. There is a lot less beach activity this month. People are bundled up! Kids are probably still in shorts though (sigh!).
- February: 60’s and it’s now “winter”. Hermosians are excited for two days then compaining it’s too cold. Jackets, boots, and beanies are to be seen.
- March: 60’s and low 70’s. Everyone is still acting like they are freezing if it’s before noon. We wear sandal and jackets. Maybe rain. Everyone wants the rain to come.
- April: Rain, maybe. Stay inside. It’s too much for the sunshine lovers. Time for warm lattes and staying warm, but almost nobody has an umbrella. Time to go to CVS and grab any umbrella available which will eventually be lost once the warm weather returns.
- May: Rain, maybe. Staying indoors as much as possible. Good time for the beach though because it’s always a beach day. The slightest clearing of the sky…everyone is out.
- June: June gloom so repeating attire for May.
- July: The fog in the morning is still thick, but it’s unpredicatable. Always have layers like a hoodie and short sleeve underneath. The sun is starting to feel warm and cozy.
- August: Beach weather, all day and every day. Suns out buns out!
- September: Repeat of August.
- October: Still epic, sunny, nice sunsets. The evenings start to cool right on Halloween night!
- November: Daytime is easy like a summer breeze. The evenings have cooled and daylight savings makes the nights come fast.
- December: It’s cold and hot. You don’t know what the heck to wear. Play it by ear because one day you are freezing and the next you are hot as heck and at the beach.
Hermosa Beach 90254 weather is a year-round paradise, but the best time to visit for sunny weather is July through October, when temperatures are warm, skies are clear, and rainfall is virtually nonexistent.
Whether you’re a beachgoer soaking up the sun or a surfer chasing the perfect wave, Hermosa Beach promises unforgettable days filled with golden sand, sparkling ocean views, and a vibrant coastal vibe.
